Ridoh License Verification: How to Apply for an Emergency Temporary License

In order to obtain OR renew your license, your CADC, CAADC and/or CCS must remain active and in good standing. Licenses are renewed in October of even years. License renewal is done through the Rhode Island Department of Health, Chemical Dependency Licensing Board. RICB does random checks throughout the year to verify those who are licensed have also renewed their certification(s). If a professional is found to be out of compliance, their name will be submitted to the Licensing Board.

Licenses (LCDP & LCDCS) are obtained through the Department of Health, Board of Chemical Dependency Professionals. Questions regarding the licenses should be directed to the Department of Health. For more information on licensing, visit the Department of Health's Chemical Dependency Profession website

One of the major functions of the Division of Agriculture's Pesticides unit is to certify and license commercial pesticide applicators for all pesticides, and certify private applicators for restricted-use or state limited-use pesticides. For more information on who needs certification, please see our FAQs page or the chart below.

For the differences between types of RI Pesticide Licenses, please see Rules and Regulations Relating to Pesticides (RI Secretary of State). To apply for a new pesticide license, you must first past a pesticide exam.

Private Pesticide License exams are given in-person by Rhode Island Department of Agriculture. Exams are given by registration only. Exams are held monthly and under RIDOH guidelines. All private license exams are open book. There is no prerequisite to take a private exam.

To participate in the Medicaid Program, providers must be licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). Out of state hospitals must be licensed by their state equivalent of the RIDOH and be JCAHO approved. Providers must also be qualified to participate under Medicare.

Medicaid providers are periodically recertified by RIDOH. Providers obtain license renewal through RIDOH and then forward a copy of the renewal documentation to Gainwell Technologies. Gainwell Technologies should receive this information at least five business days prior to the expiration date of the license. Failure to do so will result in suspension from the program. A provider may appeal to the RIDOH if they do not meet the recertification criteria. If the appeal to RIDOH is not successful, the provider may then appeal to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).

You must contact the Rhode Island Department of Health through one of the above methods and request an application. The application will provide all the information you need to know to apply for a license.

Rhode Island law requires that you submit your license renewal application by the 30th of April prior to the expiration of your license. On the application, you must state that you have obtained all your CE hours. Therefore, you must have completed these hours by April 30.

The Rhode Island Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education (RI BON) is part of the State of Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). It oversees the education and licensure of nurses in the state. Over 26,000 registered nurses held Rhode Island nursing licenses in April 2022.

Applicants for a Rhode Island RN license by endorsement or exam must apply online using the Rhode Island Department of Health Online Services portal and pay their application fees when they submit their applications. Any documents an applicant must provide may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the RI BON.

Under this order, RNs may receive an emergency 90-day temporary license.
